My Story

How Structural Integraton Gave me my Life Back

I was driven my entire life to compete and ultimately to win! No price was too high and sacrifice was a given. This inbred attitude led to many strains, sprains, cuts bruises, tears and traumas to my body. By the time I discovered Structural Integrtation, I had been through surgery eight times for various problems.

As I got older, I accepted less flexibility, stiffness and chronic pain as the normal condition for "someone my age." How many of you, like me, heard from your doctor, "learn to live with it. There is nothing I can do other than prescribe drugs for the pain."?

After one momentous event where I lifted more than I should have, I found myself suffering from severe, debilitating and what ended up turning into chronic pain. I was diagnosed with a right S.I. (sacro-iliac) injury and my doctor prescribed physical therapy.

I followed the physical therapy regimen, but instead of my condition improving, it worsened to the point that I could not move, sit, stand or even lie down without being in excruciating pain. I contacted the top orthopedic specialists in search of a surgical solution. I was told that there was no procedure for the condition that I had, and that I would have to "learn to live with it". After over a year of physical therapy, I quit, frustrated, disappointed and in pain. Thus began my venture into alternative, natural healing modalities.

A friend of mine recommended chiropractic, so I went to a D.C. hoping for some relief. The doctor adjusted my spine and worked on my specific displacement. I was amazed when I felt my bone pop back into place, but it became displaced again when I got into my car. I went to another chiropractor who specialized in rehabilitative sports injury treatments. He gave me a number of exercises that seemed to help and I went to him 2 or 3 times a week just to get some temporary relief. After a year or more of this, I was still having pain most of the time. I started searching for anything that might hold some hope of permanently curing my condition.

I continued chiropractic treatments and added massage. Over the next 5 years I tried all types of massage and many therapists. Most massages felt great and helped my overall level of health and energy, but did not make the pain go away, even temporarily.

I started acupuncture, and felt a surge of energy and vitality, but the pain was still there. Consequently, I went on to try homeopathics, emotional freeing techniques, naturopaths, yoga, enzyme therapy, nutritional supplements, energy healers, chakra clearing, magnetic therapies, essential oils, hypnosis and meditation. Most of these modalities helped in one way or another to elevate my overall level of health, but the pain was always there.

I was emotionally drained, angry and short-tempered a great deal of the time. I was running out of hope, when one day a friend saw me in pain and recommended Rolf Structural Integration.

I had heard of "Rolfing", but knew nothing about it except that it was a form of body work. My friend took off his shirt and displayed his physique. After 10 sessions of Rolfing he looked like a man much younger than his chronological age. He is a trumpet player and told me that his playing actually had improved after 10 sessions. He had better breath control, body control and was more relaxed and confident.

Due to my experience with various other modalities for my injury, I was cautious, but I tried to keep an open mind as I approached yet another endorsed solution. After some contemplation and experiencing a particularly bad day of pain, I made an appointment with a Structural Integrator.

As with the other treatment modalities I had tried, I went into it hoping for something and surrendered to what would be. Initially the sensation was not pleasant, however I noticed a remarkable difference in my breathing during the first session. To my amazement and joy, after the third session, I rose from the table and for the first time in over seven years I had no pain at all in my lower back. A feeling came over me that I cannot describe. I knew at that moment that I would become a Rolf Structural Integrator. I wanted to share this miracle with everyone I possibly could.

I encourage anyone reading this to consider the possibility that this is the missing piece in your overall health and wellness program. Find out how good it can feel to be inside an open, balanced and stress-free body!
